Rowan's Law: Concussion Safety

Action Required by all Members and Guests under the age of 26 to use the Curling Facility

Rowan’s Law, a concussion safety legislation designed to protect amateur athletes and educate coaches about the dangers of head injuries passed in 2018, now requires all sports organizations within Ontario to:
  • ensure that athletes under 26 years of age, parents of athletes under 18, coaches, team trainers and officials confirm every year that they have reviewed Ontario’s Concussion Awareness Resources;
  • establish a Concussion Code of Conduct that sets out rules of behaviour to support concussion prevention; and
  • establish a Removal-from-Sport and Return-to-Sport protocol.
To help SGCC ensure compliance and reduce any safety risk to our Members and Guests, we ask that all participants, or guardians of participants, review the relevant attached materials (below), and provide the Club with a signed Acknowledgement of Receipt of the Concussion Awareness Information related to their age as well as the Concussion Code of Conduct prior to their participation. This information will be made available at our upcoming Curling Member Social & Registration Night on Wednesday, October 9, and will be presented by league convenors to all Junior Curlers and Little Rockers on Sunday, November 3 prior to game play.

For those Members to review and complete the required paperwork prior to these dates, please submit your forms to the main office for filing. Guests of the facility may bring completed paperwork to the Pro Shop prior to participating in Curling activities.
