Use of Service Animals and Support Persons
Sarnia Golf & Curling Club is committed to welcoming people with disabilities who are accompanied by a service animal on the parts of our premises that are open to the public.
A member or guest with a disability that is accompanied by a guide dog, service animal or service dog will be allowed access to premises that are open to the public unless otherwise excluded by law. “No pet” policies do not apply to guide dogs, service animals and/or service dogs. The member/guest that is accompanied by a guide dog, service dog and/or service animal is responsible for maintaining care and control of the animal at all time.
Sarnia Golf & Curling Club is also committed to welcoming people with disabilities who are accompanied by a support person. Any member or guest with a disability who is accompanied by a support person will be allowed to enter the Club’s premises with his or her support person. At no time will a member or guest with a disability who is accompanied by a support person be prevented from having access to his or her support person while on our premises.
Notice of Temporary Disruptions
In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to services or facilities for members or guests with disabilities, Sarnia Golf & Curling Club will make a prompt notification. This clearly posted notice will include information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated length of time, and a description of alternative facilities or services, if available. This notice will be placed at entrances and on the website.
Employee Training
To make certain that our provision for services are accessible, Sarnia Golf & Curling Club provides training to employees and others who deal with our members and guests. The training includes the following:
- An overview of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, and the requirement of the customer service standard
- Sarnia Golf & Curling Club’s policies, practices, and procedures related to the AODA customer service standard
- How to interact with people with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or a support person
- How to use available on-site devices, such as a defibrillator
- What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty in accessing our goods and services
Sarnia Golf & Curling Club will keep a record of training that includes the dates training was administered and the number of employees who attended the training session. Staff will have additional training when any changes are made to our policy.
